HUMOR AND HEART

Beth loves sharing her passion for storytelling! Like her books, Beth's presentations are filled with humor and heart. Find out straight from the author how one moment of kindness changed her life forever, and how her books honor that moment. Young writers and readers will be inspired to find their own stories and bring them to life.

"By the time she was finished and answered questions, not one kiddo was ready to go. They all wanted to stay and ask more questions and spend more time with her (and it wasn’t an avoidance technique) I really loved how she focused on the idea of 'One moment of kindness' can really make a difference in someone’s life and also how she gave them pointers on how to be a good writer without them even realizing that’s what she was doing. She really made a positive impression on our kiddos!" ~ Sue Wickenheiser, Library Media Specialist, Weigelstown Elementary

"What struck me most was that one of my students took away the importance of words--not only the written word, but the power of our spoken words." ~ Fifth-grade South Eastern School District teacher Lisa Moose, as printed in the Delta Star

"Beth's presentation at Dover Elementary School was captivating.  She spoke from the same place from which she writes - her heart.  Not only were the students encouraged to begin sharing their own stories, but were given tools to do so.  The recurring theme that 'one moment of kindness' impacts so many lives is one we all need to be reminded of.  Great job!" ~ George Matthew, Youth Services Program Coordinator of Dover Area Community Library

Beth is available for assemblies, grade-level book clubs and writing workshops.

ASSEMBLIES

Join Beth for an interactive presentation, challenging students to reflect on their own stories and tap into their unique voice in their creative writing.

Beth will engage students from the first moment, sharing her own experience as a picked-on fourth grader who found her voice in storytelling. She’ll tell them about a moment of kindness from that time in her life that continues to impact her to this day and how she weaves she knows to be true—that kindness is powerful—in every story she writes.

Beth’s writing is known for its heartfelt humor and honesty. She’ll cheerlead students along as they discover their own voice, or unique way of seeing of the world.

workshops

For a more in-depth workshop, Beth will offer tools for students to dig deep and reflect on what they know to be true. She will share how those truths can be used to add authenticity, or a sense of realness, to their own stories. She’ll help them build characters they know from the inside out. (Note: Even if time doesn’t allow for this component, Beth will provide worksheets to instructors.)

To complete the workshop, Beth likes to reserve a minimum of ten minutes so aspiring authors can ask and have answers to their writing and publishing questions.

"Our book club was thrilled to have Beth Vrabel visit our library to discuss 'Pack of Dorks!' Beth led a fantastic discussion, which allowed the kids to ask questions about her characters, her writing process, and her future books. We had many aspiring writers in our group, so it was very beneficial for them to meet a published author and have the opportunity to ask questions about what it's like to write a novel. The kids still talk about Beth's visit and we hope to see her again in the future!" ~ Joie Formando, Wyomissing Public Library Children's Librarian (Check out Joie's PACK OF DORKS study guide here!)

virtual visits

Classrooms or book clubs who've read a Vrabel book are welcome to schedule a Skype visit with the author. Held as a Q&A session, Beth will answer questions about writing, characters, publishing and more. All students who attend one of Beth’s Skype workshops are encouraged to send her a story or poem for feedback.

And of course all visits will include a book signing!
